Roe Deer has been elected as the mammal of the year for 2017 in Estonia. I thought I would also show my respect to these graceful beings. Even though it is January, grass is already showing, so I thought I’d bring out my summer photos instead of the winter portraits to show how different every roe deer can be if viewed up close eye to eye. You can see that every one is unique and has it’s own character, just like human beings.

I have said on many workshops and presentations that the roe deer is a compulsory nut to crack for a beginner wildlife photographer. I’d like to add that it’s a nut that even a seasoned photographer likes to crack every once and awhile. The roe deer just pulls you in with its natural beauty and it is impossible to resist.
